survey types
PASS (UK) Ltd undertakes three main types of survey.
All our surveys conform to the Health & Safety Executive’s (HSE)presumed asbestos sign MDHS 100 and to the PASS (UK) Ltd surveying and reporting brief. And also conform to the PASS (UK) Limited Surveying and Reporting Brief. (PASS UK Survey brief)

The survey types are:

Where asbestos containing materials have been found or are presumed to exist, a plan to manage any risk of fibre release associated with these materials must be produced.

PASS (UK) Ltd provides a service to help you produce a management plan.

Type 1
Location and assessment survey (Presumptive or non intrusive survey)

Type 2
Standard sampling, identification and assessment survey (Sampling survey)

Type 3
Full access sampling and identification survey (Pre-demolition/major refurbishment survey)

A type 2 survey is the most common. It delivers all the information required to conform to current legislation. As well as type 1, 2 & 3 surveys we also carry out annual re-inspection surveys that enable the client to annually update their asbestos management plan and conform fully to the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulation (CAWR) 2002. Each survey is priced on an individual basis (except where multiples of identical buildings are surveyed).

The main factoring of the pricing is time expected to complete the survey and the number of samples required from materials suspected to contain asbestos. All materials that have been sampled for asbestos analysis are identified using a unique room/area identification and sample reference number.

An algorithmic scored risk assessment is carried out using location, condition and friability of material, human and maintenance exposure, surface treatment, accessibility, asbestos type (Blue, Brown or White) and product type as parameters. A photograph of the material sampled is included for visual identification.

Recommendations of actions required and the necessary treatment of materials found to contain asbestos are also given. In some instances samples may be taken from materials that the surveyor knows not to contain asbestos, but, to the untrained eye, may be mistaken for an asbestos containing material. We refer to this as negative sampling.

Information recorded on site is entered into the software program developed by us. Survey reports are then generated and can be delivered via paper copy, CD, or email (CD and email copies will be in pdf. format) (See Surveying and Reporting Brief for more details of the above survey types)
